Galerie Samuel Lallouz is saddened to report the passing of Carolee Schneemann.
Samuel Lallouz worked with Schneemann for almost 40 years and his gallery was one of the first
to recognize the significance of her work for contemporary art and for women artists.

Schneemann pioneered the use of the body as an artistic medium. Thanks to her, the art world
began paying attention to women artists.

Schneemann had many connections to Montreal, from her performance of “More than Meat Joy” at Expo 67
to numerous exhibitions at Galerie Samuel Lallouz and even, for a while, having her own studio in the city.

Her death is a great loss to the artistic community the world over.
